Wicked Kitchen Jalapeño Griller Patties
Wicked Kitchen Jalapeño Griller Patties Review:
What they say:
Hot & smoky 100% plant based patties packed with jalapeños and dreamy cheese alternative pockets. We warned ya!
Price: £3.00 (for 2 patties).
Calories: 192 kcal.
Wicked Kitchen is the product range name of a partnership between Tesco and Wicked Healthy – a company that primarily offers Plant-Based products and ready meals.
According to their website, Wicked Healthy are “leading [Tesco’s] efforts to bring delicious, unpretentious vegan foods to market.”
In the last 6 months, I would say that my meat consumption has certainly reduced, but I would never eliminate meat from my diet completely – there are too many things I would miss!
I still believe that it is recommended to have a balanced diet with things in moderation. IMO, this is far better than abstaining from one food group in particular… unless it is for genuine medical reasons.
Of course, during “Veganuary”, I saw an influx of Wicked Kitchen products on the shelves in Tesco, but it was only recently that I sampled the Jalapeño Griller Patties for the first time.
I enjoyed these burgers so much, that I proclaimed them to be “the best supermarket burger I’ve ever had” (meat or non-meat) so this review is sort of a post-review review.
The next time I made a trip to my local Tesco, I made a point of keeping a look out for them in the chilled section.
Score! There were two packs left – I grabbed one and looked forward to sampling these plant-based patties once more and sharing my findings on the BURGER LAD® website.
I know there will be cohorts out there completely disinterested in a non-meat burger review and that is your prerogative, but please do not dismiss what is actually a great patty just because it has no animal by-products in it.
And remember people, stock is still fluctuating at certain supermarkets, so the buns used in this review are a) pretty much all I can get at the moment and b) are a good all-rounder which I use in everyday life for things other than burgers.
What I could really do with, is a selection from the range of Americana Burger Buns…
What I did find was that pre-cooked, these patties are texturally “quite squishy”, so take extra care when removing from the packaging.
And post-cooked, I noticed a substantial amount of grease on the baking tray – I grilled them on this occasion following the cooking guidelines… obviously.
The Jalapeño Griller Patties are also dressed identically to when I had them last – so in this scenario, just Hot Salsa and shredded Iceberg Lettuce. I want the flavour of the patties to shine.
I’ve got to say that these are my favourite Plant-Based burgers that I have had so far – the texture is remarkably firm for a patty containing no meat and they feel really satisfying.
Typing this now I have already added them to my shopping list and so should you!
They are fiery too – 15% of the ingredients is made-up of Green Jalapeño Chilli and you can tell. I don’t really need the Hot Salsa on here, but for those with a higher spice tolerance might want to add something to it if you’re just after a spicy kick.
These burgers are better than anything made from Quorn – the texture and the taste is (again IMO) spectacular. For those of you looking for a meat alternative you really cannot go wrong with Wicked Kitchen’s Jalapeño Griller Patties.
Meat-free or not, there is no denying these are packed full of flavour and texture and at £3 for two, offers a decent burger for you to cook at home. In fact, I would have another right now if I had any left.
I’m glad they were as good the second time as they were the first – and it won’t be the last!
If you’re living a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle and you haven’t tried these burgers yet I implore you to sample them ASAP.
And, if you’re one of the “I’m not interested unless it has meat in it” brigade, I recommend you try them too. You never know, it might just surprise you and change your mind.
Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended – the Wicked Kitchen Jalapeño Griller Patties get the BURGER LAD® seal of approval.
