McDonald’s Signature Collection Latest Rumours

Fans of the Signature Collection at McDonald’s look away now as it is set to be sensationally axed from the menu!

We have received exclusive information that the Signature Collection will be removed from the McDonald’s menu from Wednesday 25th September 2019.

It’s time to say “cheerio” to The Classic, “bye-bye” to The BBQ and “sayonara” to The Spicy as according to our “secret sauce”, the line “will be removed due to a lack of demand and low returns due to the cost of the meat.”

Signature Collection

The Signature Collection first launched in the UK in late 2015 and at first was only available in 28 locations.

By the time of our (second) review of The Spicy in November 2016, the range had reached approximately 149 McDonald’s restaurants.

This was followed by an additional 600+ restaurants getting The Classic, BBQ and Spicy on their menu in July 2017.

There has been the odd occasional marketing push behind the line (which as of writing costs between £4.79 and £4.99 for a burger alone) but it seems the Great British public have condemned the range (which is also available in parts of South America and the Far East) to the failed product bin.

Signature Collection

We at BURGER LAD® feel this is a shame and missed opportunity.

One could argue that the Signature Collection was based off a pitch I made at the My Burger Final in June 2014.

I presented to Mark Hawthorne (MD at the time), Duncan Cruttenden (Food Development Director) and a number of other judges, my idea of a burger featuring “more premium ingredients, priced somewhere above the cost of a regular Big Mac but lower than your £8-£10 gourmet high street chain.”

Well, with the speculated news that the Signature Collection is set for a demise, it seems that a) I should never be in charge of product development and b) the UK McDonald’s customers just want to stick to their “good old favourites”. Including yes, the Big Tasty.

Personally, I would have like to have seen just one Signature LTO in the four years it has been available.

My dream of a Signature-style Big Mac will also never be realised…

Or what about one of the promotional burgers you get around the world like say the Blue Cheese & Bacon, Chipotle Ranch, Bacon Smokehouse or Mushroom Dijon below?

“Mushrooms are the one ingredient that always fails the taste-test Burger Lad®.”

It’s not all doom and gloom though…

As you know, your number one source for burger news and reviews is not some crackpot, two-bit operation making up stuff and spreading fake news.

At this time, this is based on anonymous information we have received so nothing is finalised. But we have a unique history of being correct.

Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese – we have been posting about this on Facebook and Twitter for a while now. It’s coming.

Spicy Chicken McNuggets – see above (plus we reported on the secret testing back in January).

Great Tastes of the World – an obvious one but we have some preliminary details (check back soon!)

We have multiple “secret sauces” reporting back to us constantly.

So, when the official news comes out on any of the above (before this website was born, you didn’t get press releases on what was coming next) you can remember where you heard it first.

“The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”

Alright… maybe just a little crackpot.

With that, I’m going to take one last look at my favourite Signature Collection burger – The Spicy.

Grab em’ while you can…

It’s such a shame these are going, as I do think they are a great concept (nice one, BL!), BUT….

I’ve hovered over the Signature range so many times on those supposedly germ-riddled touch-screens, only to disregard them completely and opt for an old favourite (which is a QP 99% of the time).

For the simple reason that, yes, the Signature range does look like a nicer burger, but I am still in McDonald’s, and I am still buying a McDonald’s burger. So why pay more? Granted, it definitely looks like a more upmarket burger than your average McDonald’s menu item, but let’s be honest. If you’re grabbing food from McDonald’s then value for money is clearly top of your agenda.

You don’t go there for fresh, good quality, gourmet offerings, you go there because you know damn well it’s gonna be cheap and quick. So stick to the QPs and the Big Macs and the Double Cheeseburgers (and anything else the Saver Menu has to offer) because deep down that’s all you really want.

I’m a little sad to see it disappearing from the menu (because you blatantly pitched this idea!) but I doubt anyone will miss it. Not in the same way we all miss the McRib! MM x

Okay… I’m definitely somewhat devastated they’re being removed from the menu. I’ll never eat a big mac so the signature burger (without cheese) does me well. It’s a shame, I feel our menu is pretty lackluster in comparison to the menu’s around the world.

It would have been nice to have some new types of Signature, possible a fourth type that changes each month (with popular types brought back regularly). The Signature is only 10p more than a Big Tasty- which I assume is popular given the number of times it reappears on the menu.

I think the main issue with the Signature range is that the rest of the experience is standard McDonald’s- cardboard packaging, bright lighting, loud music.

The last time I had a Signature Burger (The Spicy) was about a year ago- the reason for going to McDonald’s was that it was after 11pm and Wetherspoon’s had stopped serving food.

Why do they persist with the Fillet O Fish?

Incredibly disappointed at this news. The BBQ one has been my go-to for a couple of years, and I won’t be replacing them with the alternatives on offer from McD – Ill pay a couple of quid more and get a more gourmet one from elsewhere.

I was rather sad to see The Classic had gone from the menu when I arrived back in the UK. For me, it was the only reason to go to McDonalds. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to be healthy instead.

Well, this is obviosuly some time later, but I’ve only just found this site after following a link in a newspaper article. Anyway, it’s been some time since the signature burgers were removed. They were the only reason I went into McDonalds. I used to have 2 or 3 a week. And now they’ve gone? I’ve not been into McDonalds since. There’s nothing else on the regular menu that appeals. If they ever bring back the limited tastes of the world collection I’ll go again, but the regular stuff….nah.
