McDonald’s Veggie Dippers

McDonald's Veggie Dippers

McDonald’s Veggie Dippers Review

McDonald’s Veggie Dippers:

What they say:

A tasty blend of red pepper and sundried tomato pesto, all coated in crispy golden breadcrumbs, and vegan certified by the Vegetarian Society.

Price: £3.39/£4.89/£5.29.

Calories: 321 kcal.

McDonald’s have added Veggie Dippers to their menu on a permanent basis and are available in a portion of four on their own or as a meal.

You can also get them as a Happy Meal option which comes with two pieces.

They are not new though.

Veggie Dippers were first introduced (as goujons) to the McDonald’s menu in January 2019 and can be found in the re-vamped Vegetable Deluxe and Spicy Veggie One wrap.

When ordering via the app (and probably touchscreen), you can select from one of the following dips; Barbecue, Sweet ‘N’ Sour, Sweet Curry or Ketchup and if you want to make this a meal you can choose from Fries, a Side Salad, a Carrot Bag or a Pineapple Stick.

I must confess that after my previous experience with McDonald’s Veggie Dippers (or goujons) I wasn’t going to bother with a review.

However today, they are available for only 99p as part of a series of daily specials when ordering via the MyMcDonald’s app.

The dippers look a decent size but IMO they are over-priced for what they are, costing £3.39 (subject to variation) for just four solitary dippers.

A medium meal will take you to £4.89 with a large costing £5.29 – again subject to variation.

If the dipper on the left looks strange, it is because I cut one in half for a cross-section shot but it didn’t really come out as I intended.

I’m actually quite a fan of the crispy coating and this is a definite positive for McDonald’s Veggie Dippers.

That’s pretty much where my admiration for them ends.

For me, the tomato taste of the dippers is far too over-bearing. In fact, anyone watching me would have seen a noticeable grimace (and I don’t mean the character from McDonaldland).

Now and then, you get the occasional bite where it isn’t so strong, but on the whole, I find them a struggle to get through.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not slagging them off for the sake of it because they are meat-free.

Miss Milkshake has recently given up eating meat and we are eating plenty of veggie dishes, so this is not a case of being critical because they do not contain beef or chicken or fish.

Quite simply, these are mushed up veg and pesto which are a struggle to enjoy… even if they are approved by the Vegetarian Society.

At least they are not cooked on the same grill as the burgers though…

If it wasn’t for my Sweet Curry dip I would have consigned the majority to the bin. And that pretty much sums up my opinion of McDonald’s Veggie Dippers.

Worth a try for 99p and I’m glad that vegetarians and vegans have an option on The Golden Arches menu, but I will never be a fan.

As of writing, we are in the first week of January (or Veganuary) and the major fast food chains are vying for your green by offering vegan and/or vegetarian options.

KFC have just launched their Vegan Burger and Burger King are now offering the plant-based Rebel Whopper (although that has issues – review coming soon).

I don’t want to rank the three prior to sampling the Rebel Whopper, but I have a feeling I know which one will be coming last in the taste-test.

Whether you are a non-meat eater or a regular at McDonald’s who enjoys a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder we’d really like to hear your opinion. Are you a fan?
