Triple Cheeseburger UK – here’s how:
After having only recently been given a Double QP at this very same branch, I didn’t feel brave enough to push my luck.
I simply ordered the necessary components with the intention of building the Triple Cheeseburger myself.
This order took quite a while to fulfil as apparently the crew was a man down from a two-person station.
It came out with this branch’s trademark smile though, two rather small burgers – the Double Cheeseburger and the standard Cheeseburger.
As you can see from the pictures, it isn’t very big. These patties are thin, so even a triple is perfectly manageable.
The Triple Cheeseburger isn’t new to McDonald’s in the UK – it was available to buy here in 1994 when it was known as the Hat Trick as part of a World Cup ’94 LTO.
Some pockets of the internet claim it was also available with other football tournaments in ’98 and ’00 – anyone remember?
This burger also features regularly (permanently or as a promo) on overseas McDonald’s menus, but since the efforts of Morgan Spurlock in Super Size Me, it seems to have done a (triple) bypass from these shores…
Here’s my method if you are going to build your own:
First up, we need to examine the bases.
The regular cheeseburger is on the Saver Menu and, as Burger Lad® speculated, is often the entry point for most people into the wondrous world of the Golden Arches.
For this, the patty, cheese and sauce are removed from the bun, and added to the Double (carefully, I might add, as the cheese is sticky and you could tear things and make a mess).
And that really all there is too it. You end up with three beef patties, three cheese slices and two rounds of sauce & pickles.
I’m sure you are asking – yes, it is a bit different to the double cheeseburger.
The reason for that, even more so than the extra amount of beef, is the double sauce and pickle.
In my build, there was one set at the bottom and another at the top and this doubling up led to a rather different taste composition.
In our Double Cheeseburger review, we note that it is one of the stars of the high street, perhaps often overlooked in favour of the latest promotional burger.
With that in mind, the McDonald’s Triple Cheeseburger wasn’t going to be anything other than enjoyable. But different somehow.
I think that double hit of ketchup particularly, but also the pickles, meant that I probably prefer the double. It’s lighter on the wallet too.
For anyone who finds the double too sweet, this one is more so, but if you like the double as it comes, this is a menu hack you absolutely need to try.
