Review of McDonald’s Nacho Chicken Fiesta Sandwich

With the build-up and promotional machine surrounding McDonald’s latest burger, The Grand, perhaps the entire marketing budget was spent.
Because, without any fuss or fanfare, the Nacho Chicken Fiesta has joined the line-up for a limited time. It seems terribly unfair because this is a really excellent burger.

When I got to the counter, I scanned the board for it and eventually found it – having been placed in the “Deli” section.
As far as I can see, this effectively means you choose from a selection of contents and whether to have it in a wrap or a bun.
I ordered mine and it came out quickly. I took it to my table and discovered I’d been given a McChicken Sandwich.
When I took it back there was a small amount of confusion as to what this Nacho thing was, but with such an understated release, that isn’t surprising (Burger Lad® had reported a long wait for the wrap the previous evening).

Granted, the Nacho Chicken Fiesta Sandwich is a bit of a clunky name. Three words maximum I’d say. It’s not snappy like The Grand (which is probably only beaten in the shortest name awards by the M).
The name probably has something to do with it being put in the Deli section, which I must admit, I didn’t even know existed, until today.
Don’t let the name put you off though. This is a great addition. It comes in an oval bun, shaped similarly to the Legend range. The bun itself looked pretty good.

Inside, my chicken piece hadn’t been cut to look like the picture on the website. But having been back to the counter once already, I wasn’t going back again.
Along with the breaded chicken, there was lettuce, salsa, mayo and of course nachos.
The “fiesta” in the name probably comes from the interplay between the slightly spicy salsa and the cool mayo. This isn’t a novel pairing, but it works really well. There was just the right amount of each, under the chicken, dancing a perfect tango on my taste buds.
The chicken itself was also very good. McDonald’s chicken usually is, I must say. Quite heavily breaded, it was nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

The crispness of course was amplified by the defining feature – four nachos laid out across the bottom. Again, not novel but works really well.
The crunch these gave throughout was extremely satisfying. I felt like punching the air every time. Yes, it was about as pleasurable as the feeling an eight-year-old gets when he cracks the ice on a frozen puddle.
I have no idea why this has been sneaked onto the menu without introduction, but I hope that this review goes some way to giving this terrific chicken burger the recognition it deserves.

Could it have been better?
Yes, possibly a slight bit of nacho cheese sauce, but that’s a very minor thing.
The fact of the matter is that I thoroughly enjoyed a burger that had no beef, no cheese and no bacon and that doesn’t happen very often.
