McDonald’s first came to the UK in 1974 when they opened their first restaurant in Woolwich, south East London.

In 1999, McDonald’s celebrated their 25th anniversary in the UK – a year later they launched their website.

In recent years they have continued to innovate with touch screen ordering, click and collect, McDelivery and the introduction of the Signature Collection.

According to their website, there are approximately 1,300 restaurants in the UK – recently they reported their 50th consecutive quarter of growth in this country.

Thanks very much Burger Lad. I wanted to check prices on my receipt because I felt I was incorrectly charged for something. Your list really helped, and I have now emailed a complaint.

Your list and effort is especially useful considering that McDonald's themselves do not have such a list on their bloody website. Charming. For a worldwide corporation which sells the same products and same prices throughout uk to not have such a list. McDonald's USA website have this pricelist on their website.

Prices do vary from each restaurant. If you look on the advertisements, all of the prices are "From £X.XX". Most restaurants are operated by independent Franchises and not McOpCo, and these independent Franchisees control the cost of the food of which you purchase. 20 Nuggets at one location cost £4.19, but at another location they cost £4.69.

In higher wealth areas, and shopping centres the prices will be higher. A medium EVM at the Tafford Centre costs £4.29 as of 13/10/13 but at another location they cost £3.99.

You also need to take into consideration for the drink that you purchased with the meals; milkshakes, cappuccinos and latte's all add an extra 40p onto the cost of the meal. Iced smoothies add £1.00, Iced Frappé's add £1.20 – and of course, there is a charge to increase the size of your meal.

If you think that you have been overcharged, then ask somebody.

The reason McDonalds do not list their prices online is because the price does in fact vary from location to location. McDonalds in airports and service stations for instance charge more, as there rent in these locations is higher than your typical highstreet.

Bit absurd that you would complain about this trivial thing.

When I ordered ice cream with toffee sauce at outside ordering I wasn’t told that it wasn’t available anymore. when I drove round to collect it I was charged £1.39. When I asked why I was told it is different now. It was different alright . It had small chunks of chocolate in it and a small streak of toffee sauce. So disappointed.

    Double Cheeseburger (only £1.49 here!)
Sausage McMuffin (£1.99 with an egg here.
    McChicken sandwich (£2.59)
    Coffee (£1.79)

How come they can manage it for just 65p lol?

Because their products are, arguably, inferior – I have an American friend who can't stand to eat McDonald's because it gives her a myriad of health issues. When she came to Britain, I persuaded her to try it because of the 100% beef claims, etc. She said it tastes better, fills her up better, and didn't give her any of the usual headaches/stomach aches, etc, and that it was well worth the extra money.

How can McDonald’s justify charging £2.39 for a Filet-O-Fish? It's not even Cod.

    From the web site…
Alaskan Pollock or Hoki served with ½ a cheese slice and tartare sauce in a crisp breadcrumb coating.

Half a cheese slice? WTF. Come on McDonalds, if that's not taking the p*ss I don't know what is.

As helpful as I think your post is, I think it should be noted that some stores have different prices. I am a McDonald's employee and where I work (North West UK) most things are fairly similar to the store you used for this post; Medium Extra Value Meal for £3.99 (add 40p for Large upgrade), Happy Meal for £2.29, Big Mac (or similar) on it's own £2.49, cup of tea £0.89 etc. Whereas a couple of stores within a couple of miles of mine have higher prices and are around 20p extra for most of the products. Also some stores sell things like Hash Browns and Apple Pies two for £1 whilst others don't do this and just sell them for £0.89-£0.99 each. I'm presuming this is why there is no menu online showing the set prices, I think it has something to do with the store being company owned or franchised (however I am not 100% certain on this). I'm guessing you could just take the prices you have listed above and give or take £0.20-£0.40 and you'll have a rough idea of what most stores sell their food for. I understand how frustrating the prices are, I honestly don't agree with them myself and think the food is majorly over priced. I hope this helps.

    • 13/05/2013 at 8:44 pm
      Permalink

I forgot to add that it also costs an extra £0.40 to have Milkshakes with your meal, so this adds to the cost and it isn't something that most employees tell their customers (however I make sure I do each time). It's the same with the new Iced drinks, but I think that is more like £1.00 extra to your meal (don't quote me on that). I'm not sure if it's the same with any other drinks (bottled, coffee etc) as I haven't really paid that much attention, I just know for sure with these two – a customer pointed it out to me!

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. We did add the above statement as I appreciate prices can differ across the UK and at Motorway restaurants etc:

Please remember that this data was collected from a McDonald's in Cheltenham in January 2013 and is subject to change and regional variation.

We will be looking to check and update this listing soon. Perhaps you would like to contribute to an additional note covering the milkshakes etc? If so please get in touch!

Hi any chance you could double check the price of a sausage egg & cheese bagel? Reason I ask is this morning I went in with a special voucher for a sausage and egg Mcmuffin and coffee for £1.99, which I used, and I also ordered a sausage/egg/cheese bagel on top as it's my favourite item from the breakfast menu, but they charged me £4.48 in total?!! I didn't get a receipt to double check it, but I think that means the sausage bagels are £2.49 in that Mcdonalds, rather than the £2.09 you list it as. Thanks

But, with the living standard (and of course the salary here), it's very much more expensive. I mean, the standard salary here is much lower than UK. LoL!

Bit confused why people don't just go into their local McD. and take a photo of the menu themselves? As for people who aren't sure whether their final bill was correct, the menu (with prices) is right where they were standing as they bought their meal!? This is hardly useful, if you frequent McD. anyway. As for people who don't… well just go into one, they're everywhere on the high street/motorways etc.

"Im not going to mcdonalds because the sell hallal meat" – roughly translated, "Im a fuckin racist." Nice generalisation about people who object to halal there – many object as it's seen as a cruel method of killing the animal. You're making generalisations about people by claiming they are racists – people known for making generalisations…ironic.

Second, even included state tax economies of scale is a poor argument. Economies of scale are vast in the UK network – a small geographical area compared to the vastness of the states. £1.99 for a burger (1.60 before tax) in the UK is poor compared to 65p before tax in the states.

Thirdly, Mcdonalds could easily put the prices of your local branch in a search engine – many places do this that don't have uniform pricing. They are either lazy or aware prices high for what you get. The massive profit levels show it's high prices.

Seen some of your videos and they are great.

McDonalds in the US is only slightly cheaper than the UK.

    * The dollar menu is cheap stuff stuff such as filter coffee for $1 + sales tax.
    * Lot's of locations simply didn't offer the dollar menu.
    * The extra value meals don't include a drink.
    * I found that the products (chicken, meat etc) seemed to be lower quality than the UK equivalents.

    That's just my observations…

The reason the UK don't publish their prices is because they have two main price structures. The southern parts of England/UK pay a higher price for their food than those that live in the northern parts of the UK.
    Source: A friend who's a McDonald's franchisee.

Sadly, despite the effort and the "scant reward", the prices Burger Lad are now out of date.

You should be able to find the pricelist on the wall. I have found that if you ask for Small Fries, it automatically appears on the till as Medium Fries, and I was told that Small Fries only comes with Happy Meals. I pointed out that if that was true, it would not be shown individually at 89p on the pricelist. It immediately appeared on the till after all, as if by magic. Are they making an extra 20p a time on this ?

In Edinburgh (Not sure about other cities), McDonalds there are vouchers on the bus tickets(something like £1.99 for Bigmac, McChicken, or Fillet o' Fish with medium fries)· If you get that, and then ask for a medium drink, you essentially get a medium *Extra Exta Extra* Value meal. It is about £2 cheaper than the extra value meal.

Is there a ‘worst restaurant’ list for the uk?
I use the kingswinford mcdonalds a lot as its close to work and they get the order wrong around 80% of the time. The last 3 orders from there have missed an item i had paid for. Anyone have a worse track record than this?

    • 03/06/2016 at 2:41 pm
      Permalink

Yep. Stanmore/Edgware is the worse. They dont understand English. They add stuff to the order without you knowing then they claim it was a mistake, AND DONT EVEN GIVE US THE FOOD!
They like to be rude to you and give your order to the wrong people (after youve paid) Terrible it is and every complaint i makes, gets me the same unsatisfactory response “We have taken action and we are sorry to hear that”

I love McDonald’s it’s always there with those welcoming arches just waiting to serve me delicious food at reasonable prices but it does come with its service problems and here are a few I’ve and I’m sure you’ve dealt with…

Forgetting items… Epically in the drive thru.

Asking almost sarcastically if you would like a bag for takeaway food.

Servers not being able to hear and instead of asking to repeat what you’ve said telling you what they think you’ve said and then getting huffy when you say no and tell them again.

Not being asked if you want to eat in or take away and then they just assume and when they get it wrong act all wounded.

    Being ignored at the counter.

The drive thru person taking the order just assumes your done and when you tell them your not it like it’s their time being wasted.

Staff just merrily chatting away while you wait patiently for then to finish so you can ask them something.

Being told to wait in a bay and your meal will be out shortly and then you find your not the only car waiting, so much for shortly.

    • 01/11/2016 at 6:45 pm
      Permalink

Yeah I do agree plus being in the bay waiting for the food and when you get home you look at what you received and it’s more than what you have ordered, I’m just hoping the people who gother our order which wasn’t as much checked the bags before leaving as it kept playing on my mind……Yes we ate and enjoyed it but I still phoned to let them know and mcdonalds said by the time we bring it back it would be thrown away (time limit) but they would replace what we had ordered and money back which I refused (could of had our money back and free meal, this was said before we ate what we was given).
Not a person to take advantage so I had to let them know as I’ve been in a position before where they have shortened me on food but I kept the receipt fortunately.
With this restaurant I find their isn’t a balance, it’s either all or nothing and no in between.

You have to remember though that a lot of these places are ran by young people, and young or not, people make mistakes. Places like that are seriously busy, so a lot of the time, you’re not being ignored, there’s just not enough time/ people to do everything. They’re teenagers too, a lot of the time, it’s their first proper job, let them live a little.

Nice one. Just made me look a right twat going thru the drive thru in Barnstaple. I used your price guide for medium fries @ £1.09 & a big mac @ £3.09 equals £4.18p , so I go to first window and am told £4.68p. That’s no good when all I had was £4.45p. So had to change my order to a double cheese and large fries. Really got primed up for a big mac & had to settle for a greasy double cheese. Don’t think i am going to rely on this site again.

Those of you moaning getting home and finding items left off your order at the drive through, something I will say- why don’t you just check what’s in the bag at the window?

Stop being so British and polite … I ALWAYS check what’s in the bag in front of staff and ALWAYS hand back over all the chips out of principle as the staff are laughing £s thinking they can short change us thinking we wouldn’t dream of checking order OR portion sizes in front of them.
I never ever get home without my items AND have seen the chips re-filled in front of my eyes.

When told to wait in the bay, time it, walk in straight to the counter and demand to speak to shift manager you have been waiting X amount of time in a FAST FOOD car park so you are not paying for the food and are having total refund.

Yep- staff can get one over us in the place- but only because we allow it to happen.

The joys of checking in the drive thru… when i used to work there, everything was timed, so people who sat at the window & went through everything make out jobs that little bit more difficult, so i’d probably recommend parking up in the car park & checking it there, then coming in store if there’s an issue, just makes everything a lot smoother, therefore giving us time to do everything, like serve at the tills
