McDonald’s Chilli Double Cheese

McDonald’s Chilli Double Cheese – Menu Hack

The McDonald’s Double Cheeseburger is an unsung hero amongst high street burgers and sits on the Saver Menu at the price of £1.49.

For your money, you get two beef patties, two slices of cheese, onions, pickle, mustard and ketchup.

I don’t know about you, but I reckon that offers exceptional value and it is what some might refer to as a “go to” burger.

It’s not huge and can be devoured in a few mouthfuls – two or even three plain double cheese has been satisfying Burger Lad® for many years though!

You already know that BURGER LAD® is the premier location for menu hacks, so let’s have a look at how this high street stalwart can be hacked to improve it a touch. Let’s create the Chilli Double Cheese.

So, what is it?

It’s a regular double cheeseburger, with added jalapeños and sweet chilli sauce.

And how do you make it?

Well, you order a double cheeseburger with added jalapeños and a side dip of sweet chilli (which costs an extra 20p).

What’s the catch?

Well, you need to choose a branch that sells the Signature Collection (not all do) or go and try it this month when the El Chicken Spicy is still on (it disappears later this month when the Big Tasty and McDonald’s Monopoly return). Both of those have jalapeños, which aren’t otherwise a standard ingredient.

What’s it like?

Pretty darn good I’d say.

You get the classic pickle & mustard background to the double cheese, which sits atop a decent cheesy, beefy affair, and the slight heat of the jalapeños cut through creating something fresh, interesting and tasty.

The sweet chilli sauce adds an extra dimension, boosting the low-level spiciness of the peppers, and topping it all off with a bit of sticky sweetness.

This is a very straightforward hack and is an absolute must for anyone who leans towards the spicier offerings amongst McDonald’s special promotions.

Like I said, the double cheeseburger is an unsung hero, but this, its spicy cousin, may just help sing its praise a little louder.
