McDonald’s Bacon Mayo Chicken

McDonald’s Bacon Mayo Chicken Review

Bacon Mayo Chicken:

What they say:

Crispy coated chicken with bacon, lettuce and cool mayo in a toasted bun.

Price: £1.39.

Calories: 370 kcal.

McDonald’s have added a (sort of) new burger to their Saver Menu – the Bacon Mayo Chicken.

Basically, this is the Mayo Chicken plus bacon. Obvious really.

McDonald's Saver Menu

I’m not sure if you could previously add bacon for an additional 40p or 80p for extra – you probably could.

Either way, the Bacon Mayo Chicken is now a permanent menu item weighing in at a respectable 370 calories and costing £1.39.

Speaking of the Mayo Chicken, when I was working my way through reviewing the entire menu at McDonald’s this was still on the “to do” list.

That draft is still a draft and is dated July – you sort of get the feeling how much I was looking forward to sampling it.

Customisation options via the touchscreens or MyMcDonald’s app for the Bacon Mayo Chicken are adding any of the following ingredients:

Cheese, Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles, Lettuce, Fresh Onion, Onion and Tomato – all are free, except cheese or tomato which costs 20p for a regular amount or 40p extra.

Today, I had it without any additions and I received a free Medium Fries when ordered via the app (as part of the current ‘Appy Days promo which runs to 26th January).

As you can see from the pictures, this isn’t much of a looker and the bun looked noticeably browner than it should.

Looking inside, it appeared to have been in the toaster just a little too long.

Ingredients-wise there also seemed to be miniscule amounts of bacon, lettuce and cool mayo – this didn’t actually make it worse. In fact, it was quite enjoyable to have a burger not swamped in lashings of sauce/mayo.

Bacon Mayo Chicken

The Bacon Mayo Chicken is a budget looking burger with a budget price. I actually quite enjoyed it for how much it cost.

The chicken isn’t an amazing quality, but what do you expect for the price?

The chicken patty would be ideal to use if McDonald’s ever went down the route of offering a Chicken Big Mac in the UK. And I bet they could charge over £4.00 for it too!

You are going to look at this and say “look at that bacon” or “is that all you get” etc. and I do sympathise with you to an extent.

Remember, this is a basic burger on the Saver Menu… for £1.39.

McDonald's

I like the texture of the Bacon Mayo Chicken which I found satisfyingly crispy. You get a hint of bacon, the overarching taste is the cool mayo and it is just a classic combination of simple flavours.

A child’s or fussy eater’s burger if you will?

Not spectacular by any stretch of the imagination. Not an award-winning high street burger or contender for the fast food hall of fame.

But, the latest cheapy chicken burger (after the BLC, BBQ BLC and Sweet Chilli Mayo Chicken) is decent enough. Not much of a looker but what do you really expect for £1.39.

The profile of this certainly fits in with our prediction for 2020 (just adding current core ingredients to existing menu items and calling them new) and IMO [the patty] would work well if we do ever get a Chicken Big Mac in this country (which doesn’t use Chicken Selects!!).
