The Fast Food App Wars are in full swing with KFC launching the new WOW Box.

It seems the high street fast food giants want to get you using their ordering apps more and more.

McDonald’s have just finished their January ‘Appy Days MyMcDonald’s daily deals “promo” and Burger King continue to offer vouchers on their app, including the recent exclusive preview of the Rebel Whopper.

KFC have now added a host of deals on their Colonel’s Club members platform, including a 10 Piece Family Feast for £10.99 (usually £16.99), Hot Wings Snackbox for £1.50 (usually £1.99) and WOW Tuesdays have returned, with nine pieces of chicken for £5.99.

WOW.

What is in the KFC WOW Box?

Well you get a Fillet Burger, one piece of Original Recipe Chicken and regular Fries.

I was expecting it to come in an “actual box” – I don’t know if this is supposed to be served in a box, but my WOW Box was missing the box. I WANTED A BOX!!

I’m not sure what piece of chicken I received though and can’t confirm if it is random or a particular piece in every Wow Box. Show me your wow box…

How much does it cost?

If you’ve missed it already, the KFC WOW Box is available at KFC for £3.49.

With a Fillet Burger Meal usually costing £4.99 (OK this doesn’t come with a drink – so minus £1.29 or 10p more for Pepsi) and one Chicken Piece at £1.99 this is a decent enough saving and ideal for a quick lunch.

When is the KFC WOW Box on-sale?

This is available from Monday 27th January until Sunday 23rd February at KFC restaurants in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

How can I order it?

The KFC WOW Box is an exclusive offer for registered KFC Colonel’s Club members. To use this offer, simply scan your card or app at the counter and tell the cashier that you would like the WOW Box Meal offer. Just don’t ask for a box…

How does it taste?

For £3.49, you will be hard-pushed to find a better lunchtime offer.

I quite liked the £1.99 Fill Up Lunch though, but that contained a Mini Fillet Burger, 2 Hot Wings and regular Fries.

The Fillet Burger is respectable, but nowhere near the legendary status of the Zinger Stacker, Dirty Louisiana or Original Recipe Stacker.

On the Fillet Burger, you’ve got the basic combination of lettuce and mayo and after having recently sampled the Vegan Burger, the coating on the chicken one is definitely crispier. Definitely…

I’m 50/50 when it comes to on-the-bone chicken – this is alright, with that signature KFC-spiced herb coating and not an unwelcome, if not obvious addition to the WOW Box.

And then the fries… oh the fries.

Personally, I’m not a fan. For me, if I go to a fast food restaurant I want to eat something that I can’t necessarily replicate at home.

But the KFC fries just feel like I could crack open a frozen bag of McCain’s chips (sorry KFC these are more chips than fries) and whack ‘em in the oven at 200 degrees for 25-30 mins.

Was it worth it?

Overall, the KFC WOW Box is definitely a “wow” for the price and the amount of food you get for your cash.

You’ve got the standard Fillet Burger, one piece of Original Recipe Chicken and a regular portion of KFC chips. It’s all just a bit bland, run of the mill and is solely there to attract those looking for a good deal IMO.
