Wait, poutine? At KFC? Don’t be silly Admiral, you can’t.

You can.

No, you can’t. It’s a Canadian dish, only available as a LTO at KFC Canada, and it is still relatively rare here in the UK, especially on the High Street.

The menu hack mastermind himself, Burger Lad® gave me the idea, so doubt no more and check out the latest of the Admiral’s famous #MenuHacks.

Let me show you how you can get KFC Popcorn Chicken Poutine in the UK for under £5.

It isn’t actually very difficult. The first thing you need to accept is that you aren’t going to get cheese curds. No way. But, clearly there are plenty menu items with cheese, so you can get cheese. Otherwise it is fries, popcorn chicken, gravy. So your order looks like this:

Regular Popcorn chicken meal (£3.59)

Regular Gravy (99p)

But when you are ordering you need to remember a few things. Firstly, the fries and popcorn chicken will normally come separately in their own containers, neither of which lends itself to having gravy poured all over.

What you do is ask for them to be put together in a Mighty Bucket, which is the short but wide chicken bucket.

The other important thing to remember is the cheese. Ask for two slices of cheese to be added, ideally on top of the fries and under the chicken so it has a chance to melt a bit.

So, you take that, and the gravy, and the drink that you’ve now got as part of your meal, to your table – quickly, and start building poutine.

I said quickly, because you need to pour the gravy before it cools down too much. Pick up the cheese from your box and tear it up into small pieces. Take the little fork that comes with this and mix it all up. Then the best part – pour the gravy!

Mix that up again and give it a moment to melt the cheese, and voila, you’ve got (almost) Poutine.

As for taste, the combination of the melted blobs of cheese (if you’ve done it right) with the gravy, is rather good and it improves the fries no end.

On top of that you’ve got cheese and gravy-splodged chicken bites scattered throughout and you can easily see we are onto a winner here.

Personally, I found this a lot of fun. My KFC branch was very accommodating and helpful, it was fun to make and tasted pretty darn good.

Plus, I felt pretty full afterwards, so I can’t find fault anywhere – you need to try this!

You do need the little fork though – this is messy, but when you get a forkful of fries and popcorn chicken stuck together with cheesy gravy, this is a LOT more enjoyable than its price would suggest.

So, in summary – Popcorn chicken meal with added cheese. Use a Mighty Bucket box. Add gravy. Thank the Admiral later! And just remember when you inevitably see this elsewhere on the internet, it was BURGER LAD® that brought it to you first.
