KFC Dirty Louisiana Burger

Review of KFC Dirty Louisiana Burger

What they say:

Our brand new Dirty Louisiana is generously packed with Supercharger sauce, tangy gherkins, tasty cheese, hash brown, smoky BBQ sauce, black pepper mayo, lettuce – and a lip-smacking Original Recipe Chicken fillet – all sandwiched in a grill marked bun.

Price: £4.19 for the burger only. £6.39 as a Box Meal.

Calories: Box Meal listed at 1,370 kcal.

If you have been reading BURGER LAD® since October, you will have known that the Dirty Louisiana Burger had been tested at two locations in Surrey.

Now, on Monday 27th February, the latest LTO at KFC has seen a full UK-wide release. And believe me it is a good burger!

Firstly, the box. It’s HUGE and reminds me of the size of the promo box we got for last years’ Original Recipe Stacker.

It seems KFC want to give the consumer what it wants… big, dirty burgers… and the Dirty Louisiana is certainly dirty!! (as opposed to Figgy Poppleton-Rice’s #Cleaneating Burger).

Next up is the bun. Now I swear in the distant past we’ve seen at least one KFC burger with these grill-marks singed into the bread, but it escapes me now. Leave a comment if you can remember!

The burger comes presented in an additional layer of wrap to keep that dirtiness inside. It was fairly late and quiet when we popped into the town centre KFC but I wasn’t prepared for just how good this is.

As you can see from the pictures, the build is actually quite stunning looking. I know for a fact, that the promotional imagery is intended to look more like what the consumer actually receives, and this isn’t far off.

You’ve got the cheese and sauce literally oozing down the side of the hash brown and Original Recipe Chicken Fillet. Whoever put this one together in the back, should be proud this evening.

Aesthetically it looks the part. I think the Deluxe BBQ sauce needed to be placed in-between the chicken and potato which were also the wrong way round but that’s about the only negative with this particular build.

You’ve obviously got that tried and tested partnership of the white chicken breast fillet and hash brown. A slight crunch to the exterior which gives way to a soft interior.

The predominant flavour/sensation comes from that hot sauce. Not too dissimilar to the Supercharger sauce (if it is the same it’s definitely got more poke to it).

For a High Street LTO this is quite spicy. And that heat stays with you all the way through the Dirty Louisiana.

I like it. I actually like it a hell of a lot.

It’s messy, the combination of sauces works well despite my initial reservations of a sauce overload.

And just when you’re nodding to yourself going “yeah this is good” you get a new KFC experience from the slightly sweet, pickled gherkin slices… a generous amount on-board too!

Thinly sliced, they cut through all the other components to hit your palate. I would love to see these feature again on other promotional items.

KFC Dirty Louisiana Burger

The Dirty Louisiana Burger is only available for four weeks (I’m loving these new shorter limited time windows) and is in my opinion, one of the best KFC burgers ever.

It’s a big burger and you shouldn’t go away feeling unsatisfied, especially if having as part of a Box Meal.

You’ve got the reliable tag-team of Original Recipe Chicken Fillet and hash brown, which is complimented nicely with a dirty array of sauces.

Do I want this to return in 2019? Yes, yes I do.
