With Burger Lad® and Miss Milkshake having recently reviewed Burger King’s two Christmas Whoppers, there was only one of the trio remaining – the Quattro Cheese Chicken Royale.

At BurgerLad.com we pride ourselves on completeness!

At the counter, I noticed the two Whoppers on the overhead screens, but not the Chicken one. I was expecting some sort of glitch but there was none.

Where’s the Chicken one…!?

What there was, however, was a significant wait. Of course this meant it was being made up from scratch, which was good.

After the views of the two Whoppers, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this too much, but I’ll say right now that I did. Not the best high street burger ever, but perfectly acceptable and I enjoyed finishing it off.

Presentation was in the oval bun as usual for a Royale. The bun itself is a bit soft, but adequate for this. With something messier, it might struggle.

As Miss Milkshake pointed out on the Quattro Cheese Whopper, the fourth cheese – cheddar – comes in the form of a sauce.

I quite liked this as it provided lubrication. The other three cheeses were in slice form, so might have been a bit dry without the sauce.

The different colours of cheese on top, with the edges forming triangles along the bun (just like the promotional pictures) was visually appealing. There was lettuce in there too, which as usual provided more aesthetics than taste.

So, how was the taste?

Well, unsurprising cheesy! The volume of cheese gave that soft, warm feeling in the mouth and while these particular cheeses are unlikely to win any cheesemonger awards, I found them alright.

I certainly couldn’t distinguish the different cheeses, except for the cheddar sauce.

The chicken, the normal Royale, was mild and tasty enough. It’s breaded, but the coating doesn’t add much except a slight crispness to the bite.

Perhaps the mildness of the chicken, versus the more potent flame-grilled flavours of the beef whopper, worked better with the combination of cheeses, I don’t know, but based on the three reviews, I’d be inclined to say this is the one to go for.

However, before I sign off, I must address the elephant in the room when it comes to these multi-cheese affairs that seem to be all the rage this winter.

And that is Byron’s Holy Cheesemas.

If you want a multi-cheese burger this winter, there simply is only one choice.
