Review of Burger King Chicago Steakhouse
What they say:
Let your tastebuds be blown away to the Windy City by our new and exclusive Chicago Steakhouse. With a brand new creamy black pepper sauce to kick the flavour up a notch, this one is definitely for the gourmand. Not forgetting of course the favourites; cheese, delicious bacon, fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes and crispy onions.
Price: £4.99 for the burger only.
Calories: 871 kcal.
The second of BK’s Route 66 promotion is a variation on one of Burger Lad®’s favourites – the Steakhouse.
In this case, it’s called a Chicago Steakhouse.
As far as I can see, the main feature distinguishing this from the regular Steakhouse is the black pepper mayo.
How that associates with Chicago is anyone’s guess, but I suppose it has to be called something.

The aforementioned black pepper Mayo is the defining feature and downright fantastic. More on that later.
Presentation was in the same Route 66 box I first saw with the Texas Crunchy Whopper, and inside the (relatively) new BK method of side-wrapping.
I like it – a small change but it makes it feel special.

Opening it up, I got the BK flame grilled smell and was hungry.
Thank goodness, because this burger weighs in at nearly 900 calories, way more than the regular Steakhouse, but not quite as much as its Texas stable mate.
It’s another big burger – ably filling out the large box. The onions appeared to be both fresh and crispy and this time the cheese had begun to melt ever so slightly. Still not going to win any fondue awards though.

The smell and first couple of bites gave me no hint of the black pepper tastiness contained further within, but I was shortly in for a pleasant surprise!
I disposed of one of the tomato pieces and kept one. Whilst it didn’t spoil the burger, it did taste of tomato and therefore I should have removed both.
And then there’s the mayo. A good amount but not slopped all over the place.
The flecks of black pepper were noticeable and gave a very distinct taste that cut through all the other flavours in there. It was brilliant actually, and I even used my little finger to scoop out some on its own.
This stuff is not used enough. It’s really good!
|Lifting the lid on the latest LTO…|
There was a lot of lettuce on this burger and I suppose at a push, it was ever so slightly present. I still maintain lettuce is far more about the look than the taste.
Onions and bacon. Two of the better burger toppings. Both present on this, and both helped to keep it interesting, and provided a pretty decent crunch.
So, another pretty good burger from BK. This Route 66 promotion is shaping up well!
Unlike the past few promotions, the King and Co. have had their website updated and the burgers in the menu section online from day one.
It looks like Burger King mean business and are going all the way on this road-trip.
