Almost Famous needs no introduction. Already the proud owner of my 2015 best burger award for their Johnny Drama, I’m here again to get stuck into one of their biggest sellers on the new menu – the Buffalo Beach Club.

Almost Famous Buffalo Beach Club
Behold the Buffalo Beach Club…

Chicken is the name of the game here, along with copious amounts of the usual Almost Famous magic. Chiefly, it “tastes like holidays” apparently. As I get more and more used to Almost Famous’ particular slant on life, I’m reluctant to bet against that assertion!

Putting my order in, I was going to have a side of Mac balls which apparently ran out yesterday and the new batch wasn’t yet ready. So I went to my alternative – magic waffle fries. As with everything else AF, the list of toppings is almost endless.

It’s actually a difficult thing, choosing something from the new menu here. It all looks so damned good – I think there will be several more visits over coming months as I work my way through the menu.

On my last visit to their larger venue at Great Northern, I was honoured to have my lunch, a staff burger, with the unique personality behind Almost Famous, Beau Myers.

Different today, with the Commodore Jr. in tow, but AF does actually cater for children too, with a small-ish menu of items far plainer than their grown-up offerings. They also offer helpful flexibility – have it with this, without that etc.

I’m having my Buffalo Beach Club just the way it comes – with the trademark far-out toppings. It arrived with the usual AF style, red basket, tall and supersized, held together with a spike. Inside, as standard on all their burgers, two beef patties.

Almost Famous do not shirk from toppings…

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – this new patty at Almost Famous is the best on the market right now. The perfect meat/fat ratio combined with the perfect blend of cuts. It really is meat heaven and it’s tough for the chicken in this to live up to the impossibly high standards of the beef.

It is very good chicken. Is it Manchester’s best chicken? No, that accolade belongs to Splendid Kitchen, but it’s very, very good. And in this creation it is covered in a fantastic spicy buffalo sauce. Not super-hot but definitely noticeable, and is countered by the sweetness of the slaw and the coolness of the blue cheese dressing, both of which are pretty darn tasty on their own.

And speaking of sweetness, let me jump momentarily to the magic waffle fries. They are what other places might call criss-cut or lattice fries, but they’ve been dusted in bacon “rain”- small pieces of bacon, maple syrup and popping candy. Yes, I know!!!

The Magic Waffle Fries are a must…

That combination gives it a simultaneous sweet and savoury flavour, which is frankly un-put-downable.

Back to the burger though, and it is worth repeating – for all the gimmickry and wizardry that goes on with toppings at Almost Famous, the burgers are built around the best damned beef patty you will find anywhere. And it’s cooked medium and served double as standard. All for less than a tenner!

It really doesn’t get much better than this. The Buffalo Beach Club is yet another outstandingly solid addition to this fantastic new AF menu.

I left having already decided which three burgers I want here next.
