Monday 24th April saw the release of the new KFC Dipping Boneless Feast.

At first glance, there’s a problem as it appears to only come in 4 or 6 person versions.

However, for one person, there is the option of the 4-piece boneless item priced at £5.99 (which comes with two of the dips) and pay for the other two dips at 25p each.

If you’re lucky, they’ll put the four dips in the promo box as my branch did (a quick word about my local branch – absolutely fantastic from manager down, always willing to create menu hacks for me and downright pleasant and helpful).

I obviously went for the 4-piece option. Now, firstly it is necessary to speak briefly about the chicken.

The boneless pieces are not new and much as I like the boneless offerings from KFC, I personally find the bone-in chicken far superior.

But boneless pieces are what we’ve got, and as Option Bs go, they are great. The coating is the classic KFC secret blend, super crispy on the outside and darn tasty on the inside.

But the core of the KFC Dipping Boneless Feast is the Original Dips Bar in which your boneless pieces (and your fries) can be dipped. That’s what elevates this.

We have:

Garlic Buttermilk Mayo
Kentucky Smoky BBQ
Original Hot Sauce
Sticky Sweet Chilli

Now, I must admit that in general I am not a fan of BBQ sauce. I can take it, but tend to find that if it is not done right, it can overpower the food with a smoky sweetness.

Occasionally it is done right (see Manchester Smokehouse) but usually it isn’t. This is one of the latter. Most people will probably like this, because it is relatively mild, but it just didn’t do it for me.

The second one was the Sticky Sweet Chilli. It certainly lived up to its name, sticky and sweet. Sure, it was alright- a low-level heat and pleasant enough. It was rendered somewhat immobile by its counterpart next door…

The Original Hot Sauce. This was more like it. Like the Zinger, KFC really knows how to bring proper Scovilles to the high street and this was no exception.

It wasn’t crazy hot, but it did the job for me. Each piece of chicken dipped in this was like taking a bite out of Heaven’s chicken farm. I think that’s why I love the Zinger so much – spicy chicken is just the business.

Finally, the Garlic Buttermilk Mayo. Mayo is good, and is even better if it has seasoning, in this case garlic. I also love KFC’s black pepper mayo, but garlic mayo is probably the most mainstream of the enhanced mayos. This was delicious and I could’ve eaten it with a spoon.

So there you have it, the KFC Dipping Boneless Feast.

As we said in our Dirty Louisiana Burger review, KFC is moving toward 4 week promotions from now on, so by the end of May The Colonel will be inviting you to try his next offering.

This is just a boneless banquet which is always available, fyi – the only new bit is the sauces and of those the only one i haven’t seen a kfc before is the garlic mayo. I love KFC chicken so I can totally get behind this review – but what’s it got to do with burgers?
