My life is complete. I’ve been to Dairy Queen. I’d always thought they were just an ice-cream place but I was wrong.

They do fast food as well. Burgers, chicken and so on.

But I’d come here primarily to have one of their Blizzards and that they did burgers too was a bonus.

So I ordered a Bacon Cheese Grillburger with fries and a drink, as well as a Blizzard. Mmmmm. The Blizzard I chose was Oreo and I was really looking forward to it. Moreso than the burger, if I could be permitted the indulgence.

The burgers pictured on the menu didn’t really jump out at me but I felt duty-bound to try one. I was given an empty cup and told to fill it up myself. I did so and then got my Blizzard and sat down. Shortly after, a man brought my burger and fries over.

Dairy Queen doesn’t do “just desserts”…

I say shortly, but in that short time I’d got through a considerable amount of my Blizzard. Good god this was excellent. So sweet and creamy with big chunks of Oreos and their characteristic taste.

I jumped straight from the Blizzard to the fries, which was probably a mistake. Ice-cream and French fries don’t work well together.

So I had some of my drink to clear out the sweet fast, and started again.

The fries were distinctly average. Not bad, just average. The taste wasn’t really there, although the texture was pretty good. I moved onto the burger. Wrapped in a branded paper sheet, it looked reasonably well put together.

The bun though, looked quite pale. Inside were the usual suspects – beef patty, bacon, pickle, cheese, tomato.

The very first taste I got was the pickle. Americans and their burger pickles! The pickle taste dominated throughout. That particular crunch and strong taste just sat on top of everything else.

If I’m honest, I found it a little overpowering, although I persevered.

When I got a mouthful of beef and cheese together, without the pickle, it was pretty good. I hadn’t taken the tomato out, but considering how much there was of it, it was surprisingly absent in terms of taste.

Moving onto the bacon then, and it did provide a nudge of taste. The bacon was actually quite reasonable.

All in all, this was an OK burger with three things counting against it.

Firstly, the bun. Too pale and dry and not tasty enough although it did hold everything in.

Secondly the pickle. I don’t know why they were so strong- perhaps cut too thickly. Now, granted this isn’t going to be a downside for anyone who loves pickle.

And lastly the burger and the fries were completely overwhelmed by the desserts. Again, not necessarily a downside of the burger so much as a triumphant testimony to the greatness of the ice-cream here.

No “DQ” in terms of taste…

In fairness, it’s probably unsurprising. The place is called Dairy Queen after all, not Burger Queen. In my mind, this is an ice-cream place with burgers and such like added on as extras.

I liked the Blizzard so much, I ordered another one – cookie dough.

I was very, very full by the time I left and was beginning to get an ice-cream headache. But I was happy.

…but really I’m here for the ice-cream (shhh don’t tell BL)…

I think you are being too kind, to tell the truth. I had always thought Dairy Queen simply microwaved their food… The burgers are very poor quality, even by cheaper fast food standards.
