Welcome to the latest 21st century burger adventure with your host Burger Lad®. We were given exclusive news of the release of the Winter Whopperland promotion and this is part two of that review – or part one if you haven’t already read our Smokey Mountain with Bacon & BBQ sauce analysis. For scene setting check that one out first!

OK so answers on a burger carton please to explain the link between winter, Christmas and curry or just leave a comment below. I’m not here to debate the rights and wrongs about a particular country being mis-represented on a patty or argue that curry sauce on a burger is wrong. In fact my previous encounter with the Bombay Burger was fairly enjoyable. We’re here to give you quick and easy access to the latest burger bling on the High Street so without further ado I present the Winter Whopper with Curry Sauce.

The BK Winter Whopper with Curry Sauce…

I had already had the Smokey Mountain and so decided to just take a few photos of the “one with the curry on”, have a bite or two then put the rest in the bin and venture back out into the coldness outside. Alright… maybe three bites.

This has been put together well again and was topped with the potato Criss Cut fries (there were three) lettuce, tomato (great), caramelised onions, mayo (yum yum), cheese and curry sauce.

Up first that curry sauce. It was mild, very mild and slightly fruity and after a couple of mouthfuls I realised it was close to the familiar taste of chip shop curry sauce. It’s not as thick or “bitty” but the flavour is definitely similar. I wondered just how cheese and curry sauce would work and can report back that it was OK.

We were there on day one…

What really worked for me on this burger was the Criss Cut fries and the sauce working together which blended well and it almost felt like a mini-chippy going on in your mouth while not being too strange. This burger definitely did lose some of that trademark flame-grilled taste however but this did not detract from the overall enjoyment on this Winter Whopper.

The caramelised onions are worth a mention too as these are mixed in the curry sauce and there were plenty of them and fused nicely with the beef. I’m still not too sure of the cheese being on this burger and think it could have been left off to be honest.

Swap tomatoes for fresh onion please…

I struggled towards the end of this Whopper (a bit like this second review) – if you don’t know I had already put away The Smokey Mountain version too because I’m a bit of a loose cannon. And if that wasn’t enough Ketchup Girl didn’t want any more of her food so I had to find a home for four additional chicken nuggets. Thank goodness for that mayo on the burger to help it all down.

Clever marketing from Burger King as there is a new PDF voucher sheet doing the rounds with deals such as £1.99 Big Kings (currently kicking up a fuss in the USA), BOGOF Double Cheeseburgers and a range of Whopper and Chicken Royale meals from £4.99. I guess the idea is to get people through the door and hope they upgrade to these “premium” promotional items. But what am I? Some clever burger market analyst? No… I just take photos of the stuff and throw a few random ramblings together for your enjoyment.

Burgers with a sparkle of magic…

And with that let us take one last look at the Winter Whopper with Curry Sauce. It might not sound like the most appetising burger option on the menu but if you are curious then give it a chance. You might just like it…

My guess with the curry sauce is curry ketchup/curry urzt > Germany > German Christmas Markets > Christmas… at least, thats where my head went. I had the Smokey Mountain last night, was really good! Not tempted by the curry tho.
